“If you educate a girl, you educate the future.”

~ Queen Rania of Jordan

This International Women’s Day we celebrated at our partner school with a parade, singing, dancing and storytelling to honor the strength, resilience and leadership of girls and young women.

TGFT Peer Advocates spoke to students about how to develop goal setting, time management and study skills. They also shared their own challenges which resonated with the 2,256 students and 57 teachers.

“Girls with dreams become women with vision. Confident women who participate in their communities.”

~ Queen Raina

We are educating 100 girls in our Sponsorship and Scholarship programs: 5 of them are studying at university and 3 students in medical school. They’ve been elected as leaders in school, participate in activities and have an average 4.4 GPA (out of 5). They’ve learned to manage responsibilities, communicate confidently and lead with integrity. They recently wrote to us about university life.

Diana, Lydia, Happiness

Happiness wrote about her experience as a second-year med student:

"To say it’s getting tougher would be an understatement - each day presents new challenges, from the different module and class. The workload is heavier, the concepts are more complex, and the expectations are higher. But through it all, I remind myself why I started this journey: to learn, to grow, and to one day make a difference in people’s lives

I deeply appreciate TGFT’s support and encouragement - it continues to make a significant impact on my journey. Thank you for being my pillars of strength and for giving me this incredible opportunity to chase my dreams. I promise to keep giving my best, to keep striving, and to make you proud."

Laurine is Vice-Chair of Moshi Cooperative University Students Tax Association. She’s interned twice at TRA (Tanzania Revenue Authority) (similar to the U.S. IRS). This year she has already organized 2 fundraisers in her community and they raised $207 and collected clothing for a center for critically ill children. She and her team were recognized by TRA for their charity work.

'I am always proud of being one of the Girls in TGFT. Whenever I stand, I know, I represent The Girls Foundation of Tanzania since, most of the things I possess are originated from TGFT. . ..There is one thing that I know, is that, TGFT has got the very best mentors that no one can replace them in this world  because they are talented, bright and most of all blessed. Students find  ourselves in the lucky side of life. Thank you for making me to be among the lucky ones.’

Diana, a 1st year med student has organized a group of friends to study together and to jog 6km every Saturday to stay healthy.

Our students are serious, driven and focused. And in the words of med student Lidya, "As girls, we can do wonders.”

Thank you for your support. An investment in our students is an investment in their future.
