What We Know about Mothers: Setting a Powerful Example

TGFT girls' mothers have sacrificed to make sure their daughters receive an education.

Their daughters identify with their mother's courage and motivation, echoing that bold spirit with grit and determination.

While TGFT girls are preparing for a future of their own, they are inspiring their mothers to change their futures too.

When we sponsor a student, we welcome theor parents' ideas, support, and participation. We are comitted to their well-being by providing trainings on health, financial literacy, and business development skills.

These trainings are key to empowering mothers, as several didn't graduate form primary school: few completed secondary school.

In TFGT Parent Savings + Loan program, 40 parents are learning about budgeting, savings, and opening savings accounts. The members set the guidelines for distribution of loans.

There's a compulsory $4 monthly fee. SInce 2018, these parents have saved $19,000+ which has provided countless loans for children's school fees, medical emergencies, business start-ups, and home renovations.

So far in 2024:

9 parents (7 mothers + 2 fathers) are providing school fees for their other children to go to school.
11 parents (10 mothers + 1 father) have started their own small business.
3 mothers are repairing their homes.

This year this program has reached 153 beneficiaries, improving the quality of life for our students, their mothers, and families.

Both our students and alumnae are setting an example for their mothers. All alumnae are employed and sending money home to help support their families.

By participating in solving shared problems with their mothers, their daughters are teaching them that with education comes hope and gratitude.
