Remember When You Thought Anything Is Possible?

October 1, 2018

October 11th is International Day of the Girl, a day dedicated to promoting girls’ empowerment. TGFT believes educating girls will change everyone in their community.

We’ve welcomed three promising 7th graders to join our TGFT Sponsorship Program: they’ll begin 8th grade at a private girls’ boarding school where other TGFT girls are studying.

 Lulu, Lisa, and Glory

Glory’s grandparents struggle to support their 5 children and 3 grandchildren:  her grandfather is a security guard and her grandmother has worked at a factory making malaria nets for the last 25 years.

Lulu’s parents try to make ends meet. He is a cook for a safari company and her mother plaits hair in their home.

Lisa lives with her mother at her grandparents’ home. Her mother sells used clothing and her grandmother sells vegetables.

Glory, Lisa and Lulu now belong to a close-knit group of girls who value education, stretch and challenge each other in ways they’ve never imagined before. For example, TGFT girls are leading workshops for their peers at different schools discussing delicate topics like puberty, HIV/AIDS, STI’s and dispelling common myths.

TGFT families no longer worry about paying their daughters’ school fees: instead they are learning from their daughters who are becoming critical thinkers and innovative leaders.

We sponsor each TGFT girl for 10 years from 8th grade through university. Our deep investment in a small group of motivated girls has developed a community of fiercely independent, life-long friends who will support and speak up for one another, drive change and help build a better future for all.

Educating a girl changes everyone
—herself, her teachers, her family, her
